You should always consider your theming. You want your invite to match the overall theming of your wedding. Are you going for an elegant theme, if so include lots of flowers and lace detailing. For a more rustic invite consider a wooden background.

Your text choice is also extremely important. This again needs to correspond with your theming. But you also need to ensure that it is legible. Having text which is difficult to read may give your invitees the wrong information.

Consider whether there will be a dress code for your guests. If there is, this is something which you should include on your invite. This includes colours and patterns they should wear and most importantly what you do not want them to wear.
